The starting point for a fantastic expedition through the ice of Spitsbergen. You will probably leave from the Smeerenburg fjord in the northwest of the island, just opposite the island of Amsterdam. This is one of the most spectacular places in the archipelago; it was by discovering these alpine reliefs formed by pointed peaks that Barents gave the name Spitsbergen to this territory. The white and blue glaciers fall abruptly into the sea and the thousands of islands are home to an abundant fauna. Black rocks emerging from the waves (the last rocks before the North Pole), imposing icebergs drifting on a sea beaten by the winds... all these elements plunge this place into an atmosphere of profound isolation. The relief gradually becomes less abrupt and it is plateaus and cliffs sheltering thousands of birds that are offered to your eyes. On the beaches, it is not uncommon to come across seals or a walrus. Then the large ochre and red lands announce the flat land of the reindeer. You are here in the kingdom of the polar bear and you have every chance of coming across one every day. On these flat territories, it is easy to observe them. You then enter the Wood fjord then that of Leift where you find again tormented and alpine reliefs. This is where the Texas Bar cabin is located, opposite the immense Monaco glacier which gave its name to this magnificent expedition. The 5 km long front of the Glacier carries tons of icebergs which scatter in the bay. It is in this magical place that in 2006 we had enjoyed the company of a female bear with her two cubs, who had taken up residence near the camp for three days. After 3 weeks away from civilization, the boat picks you up in the Texas Bar area. You sail along the west coast of Spitsbergen to Longyearbyen where you will enjoy a hot shower and a real bed. Accommodation: Boat Meals included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
